Destroy Website FAQ

Quick answers about the game, the safety of URL mode and the bookmarklet. Can't find yours? Email [email protected]. Ready to play? Go blast something.

Is Destroy Website free?

Yes. The game is completely free to play in your browser. There is nothing to download, no account to create and no paywall in front of any weapon or mode.

Is it illegal? Does it damage the real website?

No. Nothing you do in the game touches the real website. We never hack, attack, overload or change any site. The page is rebuilt as a level inside your own browser tab, and all the destruction is drawn locally. Close the tab or reload and everything is back to normal.

Why does my URL fail to load as a level?

In URL mode our server downloads the public page once and reads its text, headings and image addresses. Some sites block automated visitors, require a login, or build everything with JavaScript so the downloaded page is nearly empty. When that happens, use the bookmarklet instead: it runs on the page you already have open, so it sees exactly what you see.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, in touch mode: tap to blast and use the on-screen controls. It is still best on a desktop or laptop with a keyboard and mouse, because aiming and jetpack control are much more precise there. The bookmarklet is hard to use on phones, so on mobile paste the URL on the home page.

How do I use the bookmarklet?

Open the bookmarklet page and drag the Destroy Website button to your bookmarks bar (Ctrl+Shift+B or Cmd+Shift+B shows the bar). Then open any website and click the bookmark. The page you are viewing turns into a playable level right where it is.

Is there multiplayer?

Not yet. Right now Destroy Website is a solo game: a 60-second score challenge or an untimed sandbox. You can still compete with friends by sharing your score link and asking them to beat it on the same target.

How do scores and sharing work?

In the 60-second challenge you earn points for every element you destroy, and quick consecutive kills build a combo multiplier. When time runs out you can copy a share link that carries your score and target, so a friend can open it and try to beat you. Your best score is remembered in your own browser only.

Do I need an account, and can I play offline?

No account, ever. Your best score and sound settings are saved in your browser's local storage. Built-in targets load with the site, but URL mode needs an internet connection to fetch the page, and the bookmarklet needs to load the game script, so full offline play is not supported.

Which websites can I destroy?

Any public web page can be a target. Paste its address on the home page, or open it in your browser and use the bookmarklet. Pages that require a login only work with the bookmarklet, because our server can't sign in for you.

Can I destroy my own website?

Yes, and it is a fun way to stress-test a design. Because everything is drawn locally, your real site is never touched, so there is nothing to restore and nothing to break.

Will the images on the page show up in the game?

Usually. In URL mode we pass along the image addresses, and your browser loads the pictures directly from the original site. If that site blocks hotlinking, those images may appear as plain boxes.

Why do some pages look simpler than the real site?

The level is built from a page's main text, headings, images, buttons and links, not its full styling or scripts. That keeps the game fast and safe, but it means fancy animations and exact layouts are not reproduced.

Does the game store the sites I destroy?

We don't tie the URLs you enter to your identity, and responses may be cached for about 10 minutes to speed up repeat loads. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

Is Destroy Website the same as Sprite Fusion's Destroy Any Website or Kick Ass?

No. Destroy Website is an independent project and is not affiliated with those or any other games. For an honest side-by-side look, read our comparison page.

How can I report a bug or a site that breaks the game?

Email [email protected] with the address you tried and what you saw. Screenshots help. We can't promise a fix for every site, but broken pages are the most useful reports.

Can I record or share a video of my run?

Sure. Use your system's screen recorder, and share the score link from the end screen so friends can try the same target. Only share rebuilt pages you are comfortable showing; see the terms for details.
